Too[2]Extremes

24 02 2011

Michael_Jack heard it as black or white.

There is no half way| in between| almost made it|

I beg to digress…

You see all this comes about only and only when it really does matter!
And when does it really do matter…???

When ever you deal with someone’s emotions, it matters

Examples aside…

You check out hot shawtie on the phone at the corner looking all snazzy and not bothered by the wind whistling under her skirt… (I can imagine the view, hmmmn!)

You walk up to her to say hi. She sees your intent in your eyes, and tells the person on the phone she’ll call back.

Then you trip over the small stone that you could not see coz you was focusing on her eyes…

You get up calmly, sort out the dust on your clothes, and walk away

It doesn’t matter, or does it?

She calls you back and says…
“hey playa, are you gwan walk away
just like that”

Your plan has worked
——————–
You set up the appointment for the mid afternoon sleepy Thursday, in the AC filled board room and plan a way of livening up the soon-to-be-retired CEOs and their overtly snobbishness!

Half of them call to say they will be late coz of the jam, and the other half are on time as always eyeing the hot new receptionist!

Can’t blame them huh! Men will be men (chuckles)

The meeting begins on time as scheduled and you lower the AC to increase the warmth at the boring parts of the presentation…

Then as a few of the present CEOs start nodding off, the late chaps turn up thus waking up the dosers!!

As the presentation drags on, you ask the hot new receptionist to come in and turn up the AC!

The place cools down and heats up at the same time and you notice this, so you ask the HNR to stay a while longer by bringing in cold drinks with ice cubes in the bucket!

Little do they know that HNR is actually the new Tech Manager responsible for results!

They only find out when she takes over the presentation at its most boring!

And only then do we all pay attenshun!!!

LOLsss

StandingUnder

26 01 2011

I have this strong feeling that whoever came up with the word under-standing really meant to say standing-under… Think about it!

Back2basiks i tell you!

The very first time i had a huge argument with erm… anyone be it my former class teacher, my mom+dad, oh shyte, my sister, my supervisor, my client, TheHottnessHerself, or even me’self…

It always came back to same thing…

Standing Under…

I used to always want to be the one who is understood. Always the one who is standing on top of the other person, and i had gained a reputation of being a retaliator with quick facts about relevantly related issues towards the argument…

This was always certain to shut up the other person and made sure that the other person would always take a second before choosing to argue with me!

You see yours truly Basiks was always one to win an argument and not giving a shyte about what the other person was thinking much less feeling!

Huh!

Now in the true face or maturity, the fact that it ain’t that much about you comes to light!

I can imagine the humility it takes for someone who has been a corporate bigwig to stand-under a huge bunch of people who he knows nada about and has to make sure that their interests in the August House are met with just as much gusto as the Senior manager’s needs at your former corner office at the country’s #2 tour and travel company!!

You see, in the book of basiks, the fact that we can understand somebody by simply standing under them and giving them leeway sometimes makes you wonder if at all being an understanding person actually works…

Many a time it does, but it takes the usually unusual levels of maturity to chill and smoke a cigarette while patienlt trying to stand under the other person while they are at there place begging you to get their…

21 08 2010

I have been a huge fan of Lighthouse Family ever since my little bro Denis (now big bro, Da Big Dizzle) came home singing “lifted” after hanging out one of his close friend’s birthday parties way back when he was a little chubby 7 year old…

That particular song did not move me as much as it did Denis, but when he was doing his O’Levels and I was in Undergrad Class hustling with my Economics Drama, I bumped into this dude who was in his sophomore year at the same Economics Faculty and he liked hiphop, and rock music.

We hanged out a while with Kabzie and one time he asked me if I liked Light House Family and Seal and when I blinked, he promised that as much as I have never really listened to LightHouse, they seemed my type of music…

Fast forward a couple years to last Sunday afternoon when I was chilling, maxing and relaxing wondering what to do as all the DVDs at home were stale and re-watched more than twice, except for House #6 which was poorly recorded…

So I flipped through my old collection and found Light House Fam’s debut disc…

Of course the title track is the one which I played first and remembered the time Kabzie gave it to me when I was going through a particularly rough part of Undergrad School…

This last Sunday was coming off of a similar dramatistikal week that I did not really enjoi….

So listening to Tunde singing…

“… sun’s gon shine on everything you do…”

Indeed made my day smiley!

26 07 2010

These days, the amount of dudes and hunnies leaving the blogosphere is alarming….

One might wonder why this is so.

So in a very new and fresh twist from the guys at B2B’s who brought you the post which highlighted the size debate; the real meaning of having game; and obviously if you have a Hottness in your life, tell her how she makes you feel…

So without any further adieu, allow me to steal Sleek’s Shine for a bit (no not you Baz), and give you a few reasons why some of us are shying away from the keyboard…

1>     Some of us fear that when (or if we blog), we might end up deleting our precious blog and have to set up a new one from scratch

2>     Some of us are actually moving jobs around the world and when we finally do get time to type out a decent blog post, we are so happy just thinking about it that we feel that is a blog post enough

3>     Some of us have moved on to Facebook after claiming that it had its issues

4>     Some of us are busy wondering whether the people who read our blogs are interested in reading about our shyte, or just wondering if we are still interested

5>     Some of us are getting swanky jobs

6>     Some of us are wishing that the Boobs Post would have a Part-II

7>     Some of us are growing the NodeSix Brand

8>     Some of us flushed Blogger because of a pair of lovely babies

9>     Some of us fell for the Gym Instructor

10> Some of us are just not interested in being on the internet anymore….

Because of this, the only thing left to do is….

Ask Tumwi how she does it so effortlessly? Tell me Tumwi, are you compensated that well by blogger?

Wait, I think maybe coz of the WC, peeps are just chilling out on their mobile devices (Dante, what’s up playa?) and getting lazier by the weekend…

I am making the stride back to Blogger…

Hola

Fraternities

6 05 2010

Ever wondered why you never seem to understand what goes on on the other side of the fence… Work with me here… Y’see ever since I hanged out with my Daktari Hommies way back in “it comes with the territory”, I know-ticed that some things stay between certain people not because of any other reason other than the fact that you ain’t with us…

When I was called up to play rugby for the Under-21 National Team , I wondered whether it would be the same feeling I would get as I watched the Senior Team rally in their first Ugandan International Test in a 30-27 score line, and get the same excitement!

Training Day (excuse the pun) came and we were all treated with respect by the Training Staff till the Head_Coach turned up and totally disregarded whatever the lower level coach had said…  the words stuck like glue when he said,

“You’re still on the other side…. When your thinking reaches the mind of a rugby player, you will truly be part of the rugby fraternity”

The one thing I had never ever really paid attention to in my life up until that time was the fact that wherever you go, there’s  a click of people who want you to prove that you can do what they did and at least go one better… Y’see they feel that it is their job to own the precedent and whoever wants to join ‘em must match ‘em before making any utterances…

The best part about t being on the other side, is that you usually do know where you are going, and all these other things are just tiny obstacles in your quest for true freedom!

I never ever really understood my friends’ lame attempts at medical college humour! I truly did not get it when they were telling their pharmacology one-liners and all roaring with laughter at some humour-in-excelsis cracks….

But I surely did understand what Coach Yayi was saying because I was truly a member of the fraternity

theunspokenword….

8 09 2009

The unspoken word does not usually come out…

Allow me to give you an example…

You are at the lecture theatre. You are late. But there is a cute lady at the near-front with a free chair next to her…. You start walking over in her direction, and whence she sees you, she automatically scoots over to the next chair coz she has peeped at you and noticed that you need to grab the seat next to hers…

Or….

When you are at the yawning stage of a lengthy business meeting and the lovely lady seated across from you notices and just stands up and goes to open a window to let in the cool breeze that is lacking and cause the acting chairperson to stop nodding off uncontrollably!

Or better yet, when the RogueKing and Queen or better yet, Uncle and Auntie Pop have an un-necessary argument and end up not saying nada to each other till someone waves the white flag….

The moments of unspoken thoughts are legendary, just like when Vince Carter stuck his hand in the ring for a honey dip at the 2000 slam dunk contest…. Don’t believe me huh!

Ask my main man Moe... He was there…

The ish with the unspoken word is that it takes quite a little observance skills, that are really hard to come by especially as we are always taken aback by what comes out fo people’s mouths…

The unspoken word can be a huge positive though, if used properly!

It allows the other person to cleverly anticipate what the other one will say….

Like if your Boss is tripping over something you anticipated and yet, you are trying to direct the conversation elsewhere, you end up waiting for him to get there, and when he does…..

It’s over…

I guess I am not getting at anything…

Just an attempt at randomizes….

Hola at Mrs Basiks for me, so we can get her to write more…..

ThePassion

21 07 2009

When I was younger, I was so much into cars…

Now, you don’t get it… Talking about cars, looking at cars, driving cars (ok, not driving coz I could technically not drive)… but generally I had this huge attachment to cars…

My mom’s Boss used to drive a Rolls Royce, and the Percy’s dad to pick him up in a Lotus Espirit… So you can imagine my glee when Percy’s Birthday would come around coz his dad was a real car connoisseur… He had a green Jaguar, and a black Merc Stretch…

When I turned 7, I got my first car… It was a remote controlled Lamborghini with the killah fins at the back.. My mom and dad bought it in the summer and hid it from me till Christmas…. You can imagine my surprise when I found it hidden in the closet within the closet when my dad sent me to get something a month before Christmas… I think it was the spare windshield wiper for his Peugot 504 Station wagon….

Anyways, I didn’t pretend, but just chilled out and prayed it was mine… Of course I went to check it out after 4 months, rather 4 days, and was unpleasantly surprised when I did not find it there…. When Christmas came around, I really was happily surprised when I opened my present and it was the red lambo!!

I was in a simple discussion with TheHotness sometime last week, or was it the other day…

Anyways, we were chatting about professionalism within the industry a friend of hers works in and she intimated to me how someone she knows got a chance to do something he likes, and has taken every shot at what it has to offer…

He used to work as a tour guide, and currently runs one of the most professionally run tour agencies in this country. He started off as a tour guide in one the better known agencies a while back, when some of us were cutting out teeth in the female halls on campus, he was busy learning the ins and outs of the tourism industry…

While some of us were gunning for rugby glory and aiming at competing for the National Junior Team spots, he was learning how to charm his way into the hearts and minds of happy clients…

By the time I was gradding from Uni with a degree in Economics and Finance, he was in the third year of his company, and had made numerous mistakes along with a little money as well. He currently is the president of the local association of tour operators in our country and has what it takes to push things in the right way.

I noticed the belief in which TheHotness was talking about him and realized that ThePassion that he has for what he does is what drives him.

I personally still have a passion for cars, and yes a few other things that have enabled me to come slowly but surely to where I am…

That passion is what TheSoloDawgKing is always talking about on his inspirational joints… The fact that you can share this passion is what makes me smile the most…

That shared passion will make me into a better man…

Ok, nuff sed…
